Sitting just an hour outside of Basel, rests the sweet and sleepy town of Laufenburg. Reminding us very much of Rheinfelden, though with its own charm, Laufenburg is idyllically situated on the Rhine river with half of the town residing in Germany, while the other leg stretches into Switzerland. If you have nothing to so on a lazy Saturday or Sunday, consider making this little day trip. This town is also a picturesque location for visitors.
When getting off the train, take a moment to walk up to the ruins of the former Laufenburg castle that sits on top of the hill and provides a beautiful view of the town. Our children enjoyed hiking up to the castle and climbing to the top to explore and fantasize as children do.
The entire family will enjoy a slow ramble down the cobble-stoned streets, feeding the ducks and swans that swim on the Rhine, or burn off some energy at the nice playground overlooking the river.
