The weather has been great in the Alps, although it appears to be changing for the moment.  We had a great trip to the Grimsel area, near the Grimsel Pass which connects Canton Bern to Canton Valais.  Here we saw many lakes, rugged mountains, and crystals if you look carefully on the hiking trails.  The mountains are evident of glacial activity, smooth granite faces capped by jagged peaks which were exposed above the former glacier.  One can imagine that a glacier of 1000 meters thick could have easily filled the valley.  On one hike, we took the Gelmerbahn (the steepest funicular in the Alps with a 106% grade) up to the Gelmersee (Gelmer Lake).  It is a relaxing view after the nervous ride up.

    1. Thank you Moondustwriter, there are several lakes in this area and all are a bit different in color from deep navy blue to serpentine, a few are a somewhat milky Tourquise.
